Hi, welcome to my website. I am Mrs. Carolyn Grapentine, I am starting my 17th year of teaching in Flat Rock. I love teaching here in Flat Rock due to the great staff and benefit of the small school environment. I came in, teaching Chemistry and General Science, developed and added the Environmental Science course to the curriculm when we first moved to a block system. Most recently I have added to my teaching experience choral and instrumental music at Simpson. This year I am back at the high school as a full time science teacher. I will miss the music. I love teaching young people. I believe this is my calling in life, and where I can make the biggest difference in my world. I am a graduate of Michigan State University, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in the Teaching of Chemistry with an Instrumental Music minor. I also have a Master's in General Science from Eastern Michigan University. I enjoy continuing my education through science and music classes. My husband and I have two children, my son just finish his degree in Urban Planning and Economics at Eastern Michigan University and my daughter is in her Sophmore year at Oakland University in voice performance. Besides being a wife, mother, and teacher; I am a person who believes in community service. Besides my church work I also plan and prepare a hunger meal for the homeless in my home area on the 3rd and 5th Tuesday of each month - these days will gnerally be the only days I am not available after school for help. Note for Environmental Awareness Students: We will go outside for various activities, these will be on your calendar, please make sure you are dressed appropriately for those days! Note: Due to the school wide tardy policy, I will not give a detention for tardies until the 3rd tardy, I will call at the 4th tardy, and then tardies will be handle through the main office. |
